This stunning, black modern farmhouse comes to us from GreenTech Homes out of Chattanooga, TN. Named ‘The Hartwell’, this home was strategically designed by Green Tech’s in house Interior Designer, Piper Stromatt and Interior Architect, Briana Hall. They carefully combined two of their best selling floor plans to create the Hartwell, a unique 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 2,800 square foot urban farmhouse feel in the heart of Downtown Chattanooga. Due to numerous issues including site measurements, a shared driveway and orientation of the site, the home took very strategic tweaking and planning to not only make it functional but to add the meaningful details that make it a one of a kind home.
Rather than allowing the details to get lost in the dark color, Briana strategically placed cedar accents in those areas to help make the architectural features pop against the dark exterior. She used the faux bump out to give more depth to the feature window.

Though relatively small and simple, this kitchen is on trend in every way! Partnering a blue island with white perimeter cabinets makes it feel larger and like it has more depth. Taking the cabinetry all the way to the ceiling gives the illusion of more space as well. I love how they mixed metals between the lighting and faucet. They absolutely maximized this space and the resulting kitchen is absolutely fabulous!

Mixing the grid patterns on their windows adds additional visual interest to an already beautiful space. Encompassing the dining room in windows allows natural light to flood the room, making it the perfect space to entertain! It also makes this room feel much bigger than it is!

Layering patterns in the same color gives this room so much texture! Between the mantle, wainscoting, painted brick, built ins and trim, they added a lot of different patterns to give this room depth and style, while keeping it relatively simple. When it comes to scale, Piper pointed out that when decorating an open floor plan, it is important to make sure all your furniture is functional. She says “Do not limit yourself by adding a sectional that is too large for the room and you cannot maneuver around it. Make sure you take the size of the space into consideration when buying furniture. Buying items that are too large will overcrowd the space visually and physically.”

While there is no product to list here, I must comment on this wall of windows! What an astounding way to add light and make a traditionally plain area absolutely awe inspiring!
Boasting two master suites adds to this homes functionality. This one is located upstairs and the next one is on the main floor. This is so great for guests or for when babies are young and parents want to be nearby or when you have teens that want their own space.

Are you ready to paint your house dark yet? Even if you are not brave enough to take the exterior dark, incorporating it into a tray ceiling or mud room is a great way to dabble in it without going all in!
